First Annual? Jabbour Family Reunion

by Richard Turner Jabbour

If we want to make it bigger and better, we have to all pitch in to work backwards, forwards sideways and upside down from here! Wouldn't all of these people who once gathered together in the name of family and tradition be proud if we could have the follow through that in their time was simply not possible by time and distance. The world is so much smaller now!

Please tell us who these people are from the left to the right in your comments. We all know at least two of these but we can do better than that I am sure. Meantime, we also have to try to make contact with other branches of the family to see who is out there and if they can be plugged in.

Some might say that the sleuth's trying to figure this out have no idea what they are doing!!! but if you do not try how do you find out where everyone is? So why not a friendly game? Find someone you do not know that belongs in our tree and make contact and find out everything you already think that you know and tell us all something new! Send them to this site to make comments that will last forever.

Also send me pictures of everyone who you can think of and I will create a clickable genealogy tree of parent to child just for fun!

See you all again one day.

Uncle Richard wants everyone to know that we , Jan and I, had a wonderful time pulling the reunion together. It was so good to see all of the family together and that everyone there was in good HEALTH AND GOOD HUMOR. It really meant a great deal to me for to see the family. I hope everyone will keep in touch especially the children. I will be back in touch with news of the family and the "time and place" of the next family reunion. Jan said that she had the best time with her "adopted" family.

The "elder" has been in contact with our family from across the ocean. They arrived saftely but very tired. Dorothy said that they had a wonderful time and really enjoyed seeing everyone. They also enjoyed the mountains and the serenity of the area. Thanks to all of the family for coming as this was the reason that everyone had a good time.

Dear Family,
We are cherishing the memories of our time together. With the beautiful backdrop of the Smokey Mountains, it was a scenic and enjoyable time for all of our family. We are lucky to see most of our American relatives on special occasions, but it was a rare treat to see our distant cousins. I last saw Aunt Dorothy in 1972 in Beirut. Jane visited us in Boston around 10 years ago. And we were fortunate to see Claire and her family twice in 2002 in London. However, I had never met Kim. So this was a big event for me and the rest of our family and will be remembered as a special event in our lives. Despite the distances, we have a bond that even our children understand and feel. In fact Elena and Evie are in email communication regularly. These bonds keep our family strong and provide the sense of belonging to a larger community. We send a big thank you to our relatives who traveled such great distances to join us and hope you carried home fond memories also.

What a wonderful reunion!! I can't thank Richard and Jan enough for organising it and welcoming us all to their beautiful home and allowing us all to get to know each other.

For me as a "Jabbour" from Lebanon, it was really special being amongst so many "Jabbours" in one place as growing up we were the only "Jabbours" in Lebanon and always felt that we didn't have the traditional large Lebanese extended family. This trip certainly proved me wrong and also how strong our family bond is.

Thanks to all who made it, your presence really helped make my connections to you each so much stronger and more personal.

I really hope that we can now keep in touch through this blog or email/telephone.

Keep in touch y'all.

Hello,
I echo everyone's comments on connecting, belonging, family and bonding...All especially important to me, Evie and Sam as we are the ONLY Jabbour connection in the UK and there is no family here for us to get together with at all!

Many thanks to all the US contingent for making us feel so welcome and at home last week. Even though many of us had never met previously, the amiable and warm atmosphere made us feel so much a part of this whole thing.

Thanks to Uncle Richard for having the idea in the first place and for pulling it all together, and thanks to Uncle Richard and Jan for their very generous hospitality and tireless energy and patience with us all descending on them every day all day.

Thanks to everyone else for good easy-going company, interesting life stories and amusing anecdotes... I'm honoured to belong to such a great family.

Lots of love to you from me, Evie and Sam.
(as soon as I figure out how to download photos from Sam's camera, I will post some here too)

A small mention is needed also for the stunning setting we had. Townsend area is truly beautiful and I am pleased to have been able to visit this part of the world. Thank you for having provided that opportunity. You also have wonderful mild weather - we landed in London to GREY skies (literally) and greyness all around.

Hello to everyone. The good news tonight is that Edward and Betsy now have cleared all hurtles to getting little Charles Micheal (Chaz)Jabbour. They have him with them and are doing really good with the new baby. They will meet Nora Jabbour's sister tomorrow and have breakfast with them. They will tour Antigua tomorrow afternoon and return to Guatamala City late tomorrow. We all can't wait to see the little fellow.

Until more news,

Uncle Richard
